How to get to know yourself
Quick and ask yourself:
"Who am I?"
"What do I know about myself?"
(Write it down somewhere with a pen/pencil!)
You don't know? Well..that is OK! And if you were able to answer quickly, did you happen to notice a sudden rush of euphoria? The "of course I know who I am" feeling. We will find out and explore it together!
Let me explain something before we continue further. When you asked yourself, your mind was trying to come up with answers. The answers you thought of were coming from your ego. How people perceive you and in-turn you see to yourself. You probably didn't notice that your mind had tricked you; which is typical and average.
Imagine how you would have been if you were in caveman era. Your answers were geared towards hunting, gathering, and procreating. Not much has changed in the last 1000+ years. Your priorities became recognition, gather monetary resources and still procreating.
Whether you "do" or "don't" know yourself; your identity will strengthen from the inside. I am talking about the real you. Before we were conscious, we were in our purest form. Our character, personality or status didn't matter back then. Somewhere along the line, we started to be influenced by our family, friends, cultural background, and social media. We gave birth to our subconscious. So,
Come to your senses.
Realize that the progress you have had made since you were born was to learn. You trained your brain to become busy and ignorant. You learned to walk, talk, eat, and make chocolate mountains. Not that different from anyone else. Life expectancy may have had increased the mind is filled with junk. Now it's time to filter.
Allocate some time to be alone.
You are the most critical person in the world. What you do with your time should matter to you. Find a place and carve some time out of that "busy" schedule of yours. Somewhere you can be verbally expressive and think out loud if necessary. Maybe an empty beach, or top of a mountain, or a hill, go on a hike or even for a walk in the wilderness. You have a finite amount of time to figure things out and reflect. It will strengthen your beliefs and your psyche.
Go on a date with yourself.
Bring the list with you. It is essential that the only guests present is you, yourself and the primary person, YOU. Say all the "I am" to yourself out loud. Pay attention to your mind, especially your "ego." It will try to make sense of everything and answer right away.
You are here to be enlightened and iLuMUNNAted(see what I did there?). The longer you stay, at some point, your mind will submit to giving you the actual identity. Don't disregard any feelings and thoughts that come to you at this time. Accept all of it! Ask why it feels the way it does. Be as specific and descriptive as you can.
Questions you should explore:
-What was I like in the past?
-How did I behave with others?
-How did I treat others?
-What do I think of myself?
-What do I like or dislike? Why?
-What do I miss the most about myself?
Acknowledge who you are to be true.
By now, the storm in your head should come down, and you will face a different kind of euphoria. You are imperfect and perfect. You have to come to an agreement that the process you took had meant something to you. I am not just talking about this process only. Since your birth to present you that has the awareness. You are who you are. The more you practice, the recharge time for your mind will be faster, and you will find new things about yourself. The core belief will still reside in you.
